If you have undergone a massive weight loss programme, you may be faced with problem of excessive skin hanging from your arms, buttocks and legs. Some of this skin may shrink back naturally but much of it may not. While your weight may have come down to acceptable levels, your body may not look as toned and firm as you wanted it to.

Is there a way to get rid of this stubborn problem and get the look you always wanted?

Of course there is. Just talk to us at Dr. Karishma Aesthetics.

Medically known as brachioplasty, this involves removing the excess skin and fat which hang like an apron from the arm. It can be performed alone as a part of an upper body lift. The process takes around 3 to 4 hours and is done under general anaesthesia. The resultant scar is well hidden under the arm.
Sometimes, we may choose to combine an arm tuck with liposuction as well to achieve a better definition for the arm. This decision is taken by Dr Kainshma after our consultation and is based on your needs.
For younger persons and those whose skin has better elasticity, liposuction alone may suffice. meaning only the fat is removed to reduce the arm's girth. In this case, only local anesthesia is given and recovery is quicker.

A little swelling, bruising of the skin and redness is normal and will vanish in 7 to 10 days. A compression garment will be provided to you, which has to be worn for 4 weeks.

Excessive sagging skin and fat in the thighs can result in their inner surfaces rubbing against each other, which can make walking difficult and/or lead to excessive sweating in the groin region and the possibility of fungal infections,
A Thigh Lift resolves this by removing the excessive skin and fat in the inner, upper and/or outer part of the thigh. Liposuction may also be necessary to remove fat bulges, especially in the outer region.
Dr. Karishma will advise you appropriately after consultation.

In this procedure, excess skin and fat are removed from the abdomen, hips, outer thighs and buttocks, thereby creating a dramatic transformation of the mild and lower body,
A combination of a tummy tuck, thigh lift and a buttock lift, this is always done under general anaesthesia.
As with any ‘lift’ procedure, it involves making an incision in the skin and pulling it upwards to tighten it and trimming the excessive portions.
You must remember that a lower body lift is more about getting rid of sagging, loose skin than removing fat.
You can consider a Lower Body Lift if:

  • You have undergone massive loss and are left with sagging skin that doesn’t tighten to fit your new slimmer body
  • You have loose skin around the abdomen, outer thighs and buttocks as a result of weight loss, pregnancy and childbirth, or simply aging
  • Your overhanging. Loose skin is restricting movement and leading to painful rashes and possible infection.
  • Your weight has been stable for at least a year, and you don;t plan to lose any more weight

You will need to be in the hospital for 48hrs post surgery. It will take another 4 to 6 weeks for full recovery. You will need to take a month off from work and are advised not to drive for this time as well. It is most important that you wear the compression garment that we give you all day and night during this period. This helps to reduce pain, swelling, and support the newly suspended tissues.
If you have small children, you will need to have someone else take care of them for at least two weeks.

How long will the result last?

The incredible changes made with your lower body lift are permanent. Your scars will fade and your skin will tighten to its new, much slimmer contours. Your tummy will be flatter, and your thighs and buttocks higher and firmer. As you age, your skin will relax somewhat naturally but this is happening all over the body. As almost 3 procedures are being combined into one, recovery may be prolonged but the results are permanent.

Lower Body Lift Vs Liposuction

The goals are different for each procedure. While both aim to give the patient a simmer contour, a lower body lift specifically targets loose, sagging skin. Liposuction removes unwanted fat pockets, but doesn’t remove sagging skin. In most lower body lift procedures. Dr. Karishma will add liposuction to remove fat pockets in certain areas.

Buttock/Gluteal Augmentation was started in the late 1980s by Brazalian plastic surgeons and now is popularly known as the “Brazilian Butt Lift”. With celebrity actors, singers and models setting the standard for the perfectly shaped butt, women are increasingly beginning to go in for this procedure, It is very popular in many countries in the West and is slowly becoming popular in India as well.

Plus over the last decade, there has been tumultuous advances in the surgical techniques with improved results.

Buttock lifts can be done in two ways

Implant - A synthetic implant of the appropriate shape and size in placed under the buttock muscles to lift and shape them to the desired level.
Fat transfer - In this method, fat from another part of the body is extracted by liposuction and injected into the buttocks.
Both procedures are done under general anesthesia.
